"Being ecological" is the title of a book by Timothy Morton, an illustrious English philosopher. What does that mean? Isn't being ecological a bit of a question? After all, as living beings, we belong to the biosphere, and we are constantly weaving countless links with the world around us.
But being an "environmentalist" is another story. The "green" parties are having a hard time attracting people, because they cannot find candidates capable of conveying a positive vision of the future, even though awareness is growing and society's expectations are very high.
The world is not working? Locked in our automatisms, we patch it up so that it continues its march like a zombie. And we cling to the illusion of being separate from other living beings, because accepting this truth would be too simple and we would not be proud of it.
And yet, what is there in common between a sunset contemplated from the terrace of a café in Greece, a childhood memory in the countryside and a walk in the forest? The simple and naked beauty of nature that is offered to our eyes, a source of wonder that makes us fundamentally ecological beings and that we must cultivate.
