The ocean covers three quarters of the planet and we know so little about it. As of now, under the effect of global warming, the ocean is undergoing profound biological and chemical changes, especially in the tropics and the Arctic, which are warming at an unprecedented rate: acidification and oxygen depletion, widespread plastic pollution, collapse of biodiversity ...
At the same time, the exploitation of their wealth will accelerate, from deep sea mining to industrial fishing, in an environment where few rules apply. The member states of the United Nations are struggling to agree on a treaty to protect the high seas. Let us be vigilant, it is essential to regulate the rush for blue gold.
The oceans play a crucial role in the carbon cycle: they absorb CO2 and capture 90% of the heat sent by the sun. Without them, temperatures on Earth would be much higher. In these conditions, what solutions are there to protect them? And how can we protect the oceanic fauna and flora? We are all concerned and responsible. Let's unite our efforts and actions.
Let's give thanks to the Ocean... May the water live!
