Stein van OOSTEREN
Attaché at the Dutch Permanent Delegation to UNESCO and Spokesperson of the Greater Paris Bicycle Federation
Stein van Oosteren (1973), a French-Dutch national, grew up in the Netherlands. After his studies in psychology and philosophy he decides to emigrate to Paris in 1996 to do a PhD in philosophy. In 2002 he becomes the assistant to the Police Attaché of the Netherlands and in 2011 he joins the Dutch Permanent Delegation to UNESCO as Attaché. To make his city Fontenay-aux-Roses bikeable, he founds the bicycle association FARàVélo in 2017.
He takes the initiative to unite 18 cycling associations, and is at the origin of the creation of the Collectif Vélo Île-de-France (43 associations, 8000 members) of which he is spokesman since 2019. Since 2018 he leads debates on cycling throughout France and abroad. He is known by his conferences, his videos on twitter (@Lcyclable) and film-debates around the documentaries Why we cycle and Together we cycle. About these experiences he wrote the essay "Pourquoi pas le vélo", published by Ecosociété in Montreal.
