26. Another city for another life

Friday, November 25 • 16h30 > 18h00

During heat waves, cities suffocate. And this is only the beginning: by the end of the century, 75% of the world's population could be exposed to deadly heat waves, especially in densely populated, heavily concreted cities with little vegetation, according to the IPCC.

Elected officials, urban planners and landscape architects must therefore imagine other ways of designing metropolises and the lives that go with them, while navigating between multiple pitfalls: building or renovating housing while developing more green spaces, transforming the city while respecting its heritage and making it livable and desirable.

What would another city and another life look like? It would be filled with urban farms, which would provide part of its food production. Vegetation and trees would be massively reinstated? It would be reserved for bicycles and soft mobility. It would be built with less concrete for less CO2 emissions, powered by renewable energy sources.

Reconciling inhabitants with their cities and with ecological limits is a collective challenge.

With the testimony of Lucie de CLERCK and Eric DEVILLERS from Entourage at the end of the debate.
