29. Forest guardians : meeting under the canopy

Friday, November 25 • 18h30 > 20h00

The program "Forest guardians" is an invitation to discover the primary forests on the five continents. In this documentary series (5x52'00 / LATO SENSU Productions / broadcast by ARTE at the end of 2023), five directors give the floor to five charismatic indigenous leaders, representatives of communities fighting to preserve these treasures of biodiversity.

A young Dene woman from Canada (Twyla Edgi Matsuzumi) who mobilizes all generations in her fight for the respect of her people's land and culture, a chief of the Ashaninka community in Brazil (Benki Piyako) who fights against the ravages and violence of deforestation, a shaman from Gabon (Hilarion Kassa Moussavou) who calls for a renewal of the spiritual link that unites us with the forest, a Tsaatan horseman from Mongolia (Tumursukh Jal) who converts nomadic hunters into protectors of the Taiga, and a Papuan chief (Mundiya Kepanga) who wants to make known the solutions that are being successfully developed in his country. ... all speak with one voice to alert us to the threats to their forests, and probably to all of humanity.

For this exceptional evening, Twyla, Benki and Mundiya will be together for the first time at the Earth University. Tumursukh and Mambongo will be with us on video. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 1st Earth Summit (Stockholm 1972), they will share with us their vision of the world and explain how they have seen their forests transformed over the last 50 years. They will express their concerns about the threats to these unique natural spaces, and will alert us to the urgency of implementing concrete safeguard solutions. Today we all know that this is a shared responsibility that we must assume collectively.

The representatives of indigenous communities are travelling thanks to the support of Air France, Klorane Foundation and Mighty Earth. This evening is part of the UNESCO (LINKS) program for the preservation of indigenous and local knowledge.
