Alexandre MAGNAN

Researcher at IDDRI and author of the IPCC (2016-2022)

Alexandre K. Magnan is Senior Research fellow on “Adaptation to Climate Change” at IDDRI (Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations, Sciences Po). He is interested in understanding the main influential drivers of societal vulnerability over the last decades, the risk of maladaptation to climate change, the identification of adaptation pathways, the assessment of adaptation progress (in the frame of the development of a Global Adaptation Goal), and the transboundary risks of climate change and adaptation-related responses.

His research focuses on coastal areas, especially in small islands in the Ocean and Pacific oceans. He develops expert judgment exercises to assess future climate risk at multiple levels, as well as adaptation efforts and strategies.

Alexandre holds a PhD in geography (2005, University of Montpellier, France) and a Habilitation to supervise research (2018, La Rochelle University, France). He is also author of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change - Working Group 2 “Impact, Vulnerability, Adaptation”; Special Report on Oceans and Cryosphere in 2019, and Sixth Assessment Report in 2022) and of the UNEP Adaptation Gap Report.
