Maya LUSSIER-SEGUIN
Documentary filmmaker
Maya Lussier-Séguin is a Montrealer writer and producer who graduated from the Mel Hoppenheim School of Cinema, Concordia University. She lived two years between London and Edinburg before starting her career in France as an Associate Producer bridging international coproductions in French territory. She has worked on documentary films and television programs for National Geographic, Arte, PBS, NHK, BBC, France Télévisions and Unesco. In 2016, her feature-length documentary Swim For Life appeared on France Télévisions and was screened at the UNAFF film festival in San Francisco.
In addition to her own work, Maya has assisted renowned filmmakers as Liz Garbus, Steve Ives, Stanley Nelson, Doug Hamilton and Jean-Xavier de Lestrade. She has also worked as first assistant director on ambitious documentary projects such as the ARTE special documentary 24H Europe-Next Generation. Filmed in 25 countries simultaneously, the show covered a day in Europe told through the eyes of the young generation (18-30). In 2019, Maya Lussier-Séguin joined Gedeon Media Group to work on international Coproductions. There, she produced films about the Sagrada Familia, Notre Dame de Paris, and the Cosquer’s Cave which have been screened around the world.
Besides producing documentaries, Maya’s has been a competitive swimmer for years and in her thirties decided to test her limits and – almost- reached the highest peak in Western Europe…the Mont Blanc! In 2016 Maya won the Fondation de France award for her film Swim for Life, and was granted a prestigious one-year Artist residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris. Since 2018 she joined the jury of the grant which helped her to start her career and hopes to support the new generation of European filmmakers. In 2022, she joined the original productions team at the Walt Disney Company France to manage the unscripted unit and produce content for National Geographic and Star.
