Guadalupe Yesenia HERNÁNDEZ MÁRQUEZ

Expert of the UNESCO Earth Network

Guadalupe Yesenia Hernández Márquez is a Mexican indigenous biologist, working as an independent consultant, academic and activist in sustainable development issues since 1994. Working on biodiversity conservation projects based on traditional knowledge, wildlife management, alternative tourism, land use planning, participatory rural assessments, and accompaniment in the biocultural protocols.

She is an advisor to local governments, schools, universities, and the business sector on socio-environmental accountability and a consultant on environmental impact assessment, social impact, and socio-environmental compliance of investment projects. She is at the heart of the Earth Charter initiative in the state of Oaxaca and promotes the "Biodiversity: Opportunity and Responsibility" program.

She has participated as a consultant in the "Micro regional Biocultural Protocol in the state of Oaxaca" (the first around the world). Currently, working on the mezcal value chain sustainability as a consultant for the local brands, as an academic in the diploma for sustainable mezcal (a spirit drink from Mexico) production, and another capacity building activities. He is currently part of the scientific committee for UNESCO's "One Earth Network" project.
