In France today, 15 million people are over 65 years old, or one French person in five! The French population is aging and will continue to do so in the years to come. We must take care of it.
And yet, we are not aging well in our country. The situation of the elderly is constantly deteriorating, sometimes to the point of abuse. The health crisis has been very telling in this respect: survival has taken precedence over the meaning of life, fear has taken over "the good life", and it has generated unworthy behaviors.
How can we make seniority and old age a happy and fruitful experience? The great challenge is to no longer separate the elderly from the rest of society but to make them stakeholders in social and public life. Dignity and citizenship must guide public policies, the behavior of companies and the world of work in general, housing, mobility, accessibility of services and the evolution of our family and community lifestyles. Successive governments have announced major reforms for old age, which society has been calling for, but they have had difficulty putting their promises into practice.
Imposing old age as a major theme for our society is essential: old age is a wealth, let's make it prosper.
