If the economy is indeed responsible for the climate and ecological crisis, can it also help to control or even resolve it? The decarbonization of the economy depends on reducing the carbon footprint of the existing assets of the economic and financial system.
This requires huge investments in low-carbon cities, more efficient factories, the development of renewable energies, etc. But this transformation must be carried out on a large scale: according to the International Energy Agency, 4,000 billion euros per year will have to be invested to halve our CO2 emissions by 2030. To finance this amount, it will be necessary to redirect the world's savings towards a less emitting economy. This responsibility falls largely on finance and its orientations.
How to mobilize asset managers and transform savings into financing a positive economy that promotes ecological resilience and social progress. Impact investing funds, which aim at a financial return with a positive social and environmental impact, are developing but represent only a drop in the bucket. The "impact revolution" has only just begun.
